Just a little update. Still no music. I'm sorry. How every, I got a little excited about something that happened on twitter earlier.

I wrote a tweet to Ricky Gervais and he happened to retweet it. From this came lots of retweets and replies (mostly to him, but with my name in the tweet too). It got a bit much and I was tempted to turn off my phone until it all passed. But whilst scrolling through all the replies one jumped out at me. This one, by a user named Peter Cornish-Barlow. It reads "I started following because I have one of your mash-up's on my iPod and its aces. Didn't realise you were on Twitter!". Oh, by the way, the guys owns a record label. And has my music on his iPod. That made me happy.

My first "live" mix. I've been meaning to do a "live" DJ set, and record it, for a while now and figured a 2011 mix would be the best opportunity to do it.

I didnt really plan it to much, just went through my iTunes looking for songs I enjoyed/played a lot this year. After I finished I realised I missed a few out. It was all done using the iPhone app "DJay".

I took the finished file in to soundforge and cleaned up some big mistakes but I left little ones. So there is some sketchy pitch areas and some not so fantastic mixing. But thats what I would expect from my first attempt. Track list is as follows

Entered a little remix contest for RJD2's new project "Icebird". Didn't really add anything, just moved the original parts around, really. Sounds alright. Zero intention of actualling winning anything. All the other remixers worked hard on theirs. Play it below.

I made this song a while back when Linkin Park first announced the contest and I never really liked it. It stayed dormant on my hard drive like so many other songs. I was going through my old stuff to let my girlfriend listen to it. She didn't really understand at first that it was me that had remixed what she had just heard and upon learning told me I should upload it. It also gave me a good excuse to create and test out a soundcloud.com account.

I'm not really sure this counts as a "remix" as such. But I'm not sure what it IS. The original can be heard here. They released the parts of the song on their myspace before the song was actually released so it made it hard to know what the original was meant to sound like. They also didn't put in the synthy bit thats in the original. Unfortunately.

Also, happy New Year. I hope that me putting this out will encourage me to make more music this year.

So I know I've said a few times that I'm going to cut back on making mashups. But sometimes, when I'm in the shower, an idea comes to me that I find so funny I have to do it. So I made my busta rhymes/alphabeat mashup based solely on the fact the videos sort of looked alike but this mashup was made just because of the name. It mixes Rage Against the Machine with Florence and the Machine. Rage Against Florence and the Machine. Clever huh.

The song its self is sort of like a night with me. Seems like it could be a good idea but feels very dirty and has an unsatisfying ending. And lasts about 2 and half minutes.

Valentines Day mix and Facebook

Attention ladies and gentleman I am your saviour.

As you may or may not know next Sunday is valentines day and I’ve created something a little special. One of the things I’ve always hoped to do with my music is show that not all hip-hop/rap is naughty words and violent situations. I decided I would put together a little mix CD with a collection of rap tracks (and some other samples) that show the softer side, specifically the appreciation of the fairer sex. To be honest I could of just of thrown together a bunch of tracks by LL Cool J and Common but I decided to dig a little deeper into my collection (although, there is two LL songs…) (coincidently as I write this I’m also watching a 30 Rock episode which stars Mr Smith)

So for guys I’ve created a CD, injected with my patented charm, which you can give to your special lady to show much you appreciate them. For single girls I’ve created a CD which, when listened to, will hopefully refill your confidence in us and make you feel like the princesses you are. We’re not all bastards, honest.

As well as the CD you can also download the “case” for it. Essentially it’s a design that fills a piece of paper that will keep your CD safe and looking good. Its based on this guide (which you will want to use). There is 4 different versions. Two have a background, two don’t (to save ink). One of each has the guide lines for folding correctly.

If you’d like to support this please feel free to throw a little money towards the British Heart Foundation. Everyone needs a heart.

This is going to be a small 2 part blog

First I'm quite shocked and happy to say I was a runner up in acapellas4u's mega mix contest that I blogged about here. Here's what the CutUpBoys had to say about it:

Absolutely brilliant. Balances gracefully on the line between cool and fun. You're still smiling at the Spongebob kick off as you get into a consistently headnodding sequence of tracks that all flow nicely into each other whilst being interesting and never letting go of the groove. The acapellas and samples sew everything together really nicely. The production is nice and tight and tidy and the arrangement never feels rushed or boring. Great party mix.

Now for the second part. So I was listening to Zane Lowes radio show on BBC Radio 1 last week when he interviewed Jay-Z. Zane played a remix of 99 problems with Wonderwall (not mine) and asked Jay if he had heard it. He said no but said he had heard another version of it. Now although I wasn't the only one to do this remix a little bit of me would like to think it was mine he had heard. Especially since its such a popular result on google achieving not 1, but 3, results on the first page when searching "99 problems wonderwall" :)

A little mega mix by me

So acapellas4u was hosting a contest for megamixes. I had never made a megamix and I knew it involved a couple of things I didn't know how to do so seeing as I like to push my self, every now and again, I figured I'd give it a try.

This was actually my third attempt at one and it lacked an ending up until about 2 hours before the contest was over so the start fairs slightly better than the end.

It also kind of brings back a few things I had done/attempted to do when I first got into making music.

I cant be bothered with a track list but it features a bit of Beastie Boys, Jay-z, Spongebob Squarepants, Futurama, Due South, Common and a couple other artists.

Ever since I started playing around with putting videos to my music I wanted to remix these 2 songs, mainly due to the fact alphabeat clearly stole the video idea for fascination from busta's touch it (remix)

This was the first time using premiere pro that I actually did some things. Normally I just go in, slap the 2 vids together, and upload it. This involved some lovely cropping and some nicely timed cuts between the two videos. The remix its self is pretty poor. Especially dmx's part, how ever he makes up for it with his dancing at 4:15. It's also making use of the lovely new widescreen feature on youtube, a feature I've yet to use (mainly because I couldn't crop my other videos).

So radiohead released all the separate parts that make up the song reckoner for people to remix. So I did. I only used parts from the song. No other drums and samples etc. All radiohead.

I think I delved deep into my soul and found my inner DJ Shadow for this one.

So I had this idea whilst waiting for jay-z to come on stage at Glastonbury. Essentially it was going to be a reference to the whole situation with Noel Gallagher claiming that hip-hop shouldn't be aloud at Glastonbury and generally being an ignorant tool.

I had the idea of mixing Wonderwall with 99 Problems for shits and giggles, and then considered doing a little remix ep (which I think I will). Then jay comes out and does a cover of Wonderwall and follows it with 99 problems, figures. Now my slightly original idea lost its originality.

Anyways, here it is. Stay tuned for more tracks, maybe.

We Started Mashing (The Ting Tings Mashup)

Well,

I'm back with my first mixtape since "rhyming in rainbows". I must say I was slightly overwhelmed by the reviews and what not it got. Seeing people talk about something I created and showing their appreciation's for my work was a real confidence booster. So I'd like to say thanks to people such as wonky_blog, Boom Bap Hip Hop and Oh, Warfair & Therapy to name a few.

But yeah, the ting tings. So I'd heard their song "Great DJ" quite a bit and had started to hear "That's not my name. At first I was a bit iffy with them but their rather 'unique' sound found its way in to my head. I was at a party a couple weeks back where a friend stuck on their album, "We Started Nothing". As I sat their listening to the album (a lot of which is instrumental) I thought to my self "meh, I could mash up this album". So I did.

Now I must say that this is in no way a Rhyming in Rainbows 2: Electric Boogaloo or anything. I put a lot of work into that mixtape where as this project was, for the most part, just cutting loops and laying the raps over them. But that doesn't mean its a bad mixtape, 'cause it aint. But that's just my opinion... So yeah. The ting tings.....mashed up....with common, mos def, beasties etc etc bla bla. Download and preview below.

I knew it....

So I recently bought an xbox 360 off ebay for £300 with 7 games. I was going to hold out a few more months as I was only really waiting for gta IV to drop. I also thought it would be best to wait in case there was a price drop, but I figured there probably wouldn't be. Plus I had some money burning in my pocket. So I bought one. imagine my delight as I'm on the digg home page and I see the title Confirmed: Xbox 360 Price-Cut, Now Cheaper Than Wii. Awesome.

Meh, at least its made the past few weeks rather enjoyable. I'm currently playing skate and burnout the most. If you want to beat me at either of them feel free to add me. My gamertag is, surprisingly, hippomothamus. Incidental, I just finished an on-line session on burnout and found enjoyment in 2 guys (Canadians, I believe) trying to pronounce my name. On one of the races I won one of them even made reference to me being a "Hungry Hungry Hippo"

So I was contacted a few weeks ago on myspace by a rapper called D-Form. He said he heard my "In Rainbows" mixtape (unlike most of my friends...) and loved it. He said he was part of a group called the "chubby chasers" and asked if I was interested in remixing any of their tracks. I was. This gave me an opportunity to use a sample I'd been wanting to use since I first heard it.

So you may or may not know this, but Jay-Z has released acapellas of all the tracks on his new album for us fine re-mixers to play with. So far there is a bunch of albums out there using them. A led zeplin based one, a godfather based one etc etc, so I figured I'd try jump on the bandwagon, with the only logical source for my samples..wham!.

So far I've done one track, mixes "Last Christmas" (hence why I decided to release it now) with the track "American Gangster". I'm not sure if I will go though with the whole album though...it would be nice, especially since hiphopdx.com is hosting a contest for remixes.

I finally finished my most recent time wasting project rhyming in rainbows. The mixtape consists of songs using only samples from each track from the new radiohead album In Rainbows. So, say, track 5 on this mixtape Def Cover by Murs features only samples from the 5th track off In Rainbows which is All I need.

You can download the album 2 ways. One normal download, which is a 56 MB .zip file. Or you can download a torrent, which is hosted on the piratebay. If you dont know what a torrent is then just ignore this and download the normal way.
